🌟 Our 8th grade students have been diving into an exciting ARC unit on Westward Expansion! As part of their project, each student chose a group of people to become experts in, wrote a claim, and developed an argumentative essay. They then turned their arguments into interactive games, presenting their evidence and reasoning within their claims. For example, one group focused on gold miners, claiming they were hardworking individuals. The creativity and effort put into these projects have been outstanding.
Today, the 4th grade students got to visit the middle school and play the 8th grade students’ games! 🎉📚
🌟 ¡Nuestros estudiantes de octavo grado se han sumergido en una emocionante unidad ARC en Westward Expansion! 🚗💥 Our 8th grade students returned to a unit about contact forces and collisions the past couple weeks! As part of their project, they engineered and designed vehicles to keep an egg safe in a collision. Today, they put their designs to the test at the skatepark to see whose engineering skills protected the egg the best. It was an egg-citing day filled with creativity and learning! 🥚🚀

Clarke Science Bound had a special ceremony on Monday, May 13th, to celebrate the acceptance of 8th graders into the high school Science Bound program. The Science Bound program is Iowa State University’s pre-college through college program to increase the number of diverse Iowa youth who pursue degrees and careers in ASTEM fields. Additionally, our first senior generation of Science Bound students presented their Oral Justification and signed their certificates, officially receiving their scholarship to attend ISU. Congratulations to all the scholars!

🏆📚 Clarke Middle School is proud to announce that Maahir Desai has earned first place in the US History Quiz Bowl! 🥇🌟 Maahir competed against 58 8th grade students and emerged victorious, showcasing impressive knowledge and dedication to the subject.
Congratulations are also in order for the other finalists: Macayla Hicks, Luke Wade, and Ximena Zayago Yepez. 🎉👏 These four students were the final four out of all participants, demonstrating exceptional understanding of US history.

🥇Masan Redman, 8th grader at Clarke Middle School, competed at the Iowa State Archery Tournament in March. He shot 284 in bullseye and 281 in 3D to finish 6th and 9th place, respectively. As a top 10 archer in his division, Masan qualifies for the 2024 NASP Eastern National Tournament which will be held in Louisville, KY May 9-11. Masan is the first archer at Clarke to compete back-to-back in bullseye at Nationals and the first to qualify in 3D.

The 7th and 8th Grade Spring Band Concert is tonight at 7:00 PM in the auditorium. Admission is free. This performance is required for all 7th and 8th grade band members. Students should dress up in the best clothes that they have and be in the band room by 6:30 PM to warm up their instruments.
