Clarke High School

Ms. Boyd’s Environmental Science class has been studying water quality. As part of this study the class toured the Water Plant and also the Wastewater Treatment Plant. Students learned what the daily tasks are for these careers and also discussed educational requirements, starting pay, and benefits. Students learned the process the water from the lake goes through to get to our homes or businesses in Osceola. They also learned where the water goes after it is used and how it is naturally cleaned before being released back into the environment. Another part of this unit of study is building their problem-solving skills and learning about the scientific process. Students have been presented with a problem - water pollution. They have to create a device to clean oil out of water with an invention that they have created. La clase de Ciencias y el medio ambiente de Ms. Boyd han estado estudiando la calidad del agua. Como parte de este estudio la clase recorrió la Planta de Agua y también la Planta de Tratamiento de Aguas Residuales. Los estudiantes aprendieron cuáles son las tareas diarias de estas carreras y también discutieron los requisitos educativos, el salario inicial y los beneficios. Los estudiantes aprendieron el proceso por el que pasa el agua del lago para llegar a nuestros hogares o negocios en Osceola. También aprendieron adónde va el agua después de su uso y cómo se limpia naturalmente antes de ser devuelta al medio ambiente. Otra parte de esta unidad de estudio es desarrollar sus habilidades para resolver problemas y aprender sobre el proceso científico. A los estudiantes se les ha presentado un problema: la contaminación del agua. Tienen que crear un dispositivo para limpiar el aceite del agua con un invento que ellos han creado.

The MS/HS Jazz Band Concert is tonight at 7:00 p.m. in the auditorium. Admission is free. This performance is required for all jazz band participants. MS/HS Jazz Band Members should dress up in the best clothes that they have and be in the band room by 6:30 PM to warm up their instruments. The high school band will perform their winter concert on Monday, December 18 at 7:00 PM in the high school auditorium. Both the concert band and the Jazz I Ensemble will perform. On the 18th of November, the Clarke High School esports team will be hosting a 6th through 12th grade Super Smash Brothers tournament for the state of Iowa. Schools from all over will be coming to compete for the trophy of the South Central Smash Tournament. Entry is $10 and all Iowa’s high school students are welcome to attend. Colleges will be present for scouting and prizes go out to the top 3 winners. It is a double-elimination tournament. This morning some Clarke High School Student Council members went to the Osceola cemetery to help the American Legion put up flags for Veterans Day. The Student Council is trying to have more of a focus on giving back to our community and this was our first opportunity! UPDATE: Have you noticed the progress on the house at the corner of Shaw St. and Hwy 69? The team of Clarke and Murray students in the SWCC Carpentry Program is making considerable strides in the house frame. Next week you will notice the beginnings of a roof and walls to enclose the house; stay tuned for a video tour! On September 29th, professionals from HTS Ag visited the Clarke Ag Department to set up and demonstrate how to use their new drone. The Ag Department used Perkins funding to purchase an Autel Evo II Pro Drone and software. Students are completing FAA trainings and will be able to manually fly the drone or program it to remotely fly a mission as part of their education. The software allows operators to analyze photos from the drone for things like elevation and thermal imaging. Students hope to cooperate with the community to apply what they are learning. 🌱The Plant Science class is working hard to invest pride in their school environment. They have been weeding flower beds and mulching. The class approved the project with the head grounds keeper and had assistance from Ryan Rychnovsky who assisted them in donating mulch, Matt McCann allowed them to use his dump trailer to haul mulch and dirt, and janitors let students borrow rakes and shovels. 🌿 🌱La clase de Ciencias de Plantas está trabajando fuertemente para invertir orgullo en su entorno escolar.
