From October 31st through November 4th, twelve members of the Osceola Big Chief FFA Chapter attended the 96th National FFA Convention and Expo in Indianapolis, IN. This event is the nation's largest annual gathering of FFA members, advisors, and alumni. Throughout the convention, students have the opportunity to explore career and educational opportunities. There were a total of 72,954 members, advisors, and guests in attendance.
During the week, the Osceola Big Chief FFA members, along with four other FFA chapters from around the area, had the chance to tour various ag-related companies and businesses. Early Tuesday morning the group toured at John Deere in Davenport, IA. The 37-acre facility manufactures construction and forestry equipment. Students got a chance to see fabrication, welding, robotics, assembly, painting, and quality testing.
The following day, the FFA chapter's first stop was at the Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, IN, to watch the first opening general session. They watched the posting of colors and presentation of state’s flags and got the opportunity to listen to the motivational speaker, Juan Bendana. He shared how to increase their confidence and not to be afraid to take opportunities. Afterward, they continued their day by experiencing the career show, FFA mall, and workshops. There were a total of 287 businesses set up in the Expo Hall.
On day three, back at the convention hall, they started their day off with a leadership workshop where they learned about entrepreneurship. Following that, members returned to Lucas Oil Stadium for another general session where they listened to retiring addresses of national officers. Later in the day, the Big Chief FFA chapter members took a quick history tour of Downtown Indianapolis. Then headed to Rascals Fun Zone and Arcade for some mini golfing, go-cart racing, and fun! We would also like to thank our FFA Alumni for their support. They sponsored a meal at Texas Roadhouse for these students.
The next morning, The Osceola Big Chief members spent the entire day touring businesses and experiencing new things! Their first stop was Elanco where they learned about the process of making Rumensin. Following that, they headed to Beasley Orchard where they learned about the production and management of orchard fruits and vegetables. The Osceola Big Chief chapter ended the evening at the World's Toughest Rodeo.
On the last and final day of the 96th National FFA Convention and Expo, they kicked off the morning by watching the American FFA Degree ceremony. There were a total of nine members representing the Osceola Big Chief FFA Chapter by earning the highest degree possible in the FFA organization, the American Degree. Congratulations to Clay Allen, Alivia Bakley, Kacey Boyer, Konrad Boyer, Jairus Davis, Devin DeVore, Kelli McAfee, Madi Sandel, and Breanna Selsor. This group made chapter history. They are the largest group, since our chapter’s beginning in 1938, to receive their American Degree. To receive your American Degree a student must be at least a freshman in college, earned at least $10,000 and productively invested at least $7,500; or earned and productively invested $2,000 and worked 2,250 hours in excess of scheduled class time over their years in FFA. We are so happy for this group of students and honored to have them as members of our chapter!

El tercer día, de regreso al salón de convenciones, comenzaron el día con un taller de liderazgo donde aprendieron sobre emprendimiento. Después de eso, los miembros regresaron al estadio Lucas Oil para otra sesión general donde escucharon los discursos de los funcionarios nacionales que se retiraban. Más tarde ese mismo día, los miembros del capítulo Big Chief FFA realizaron un rápido recorrido histórico por el centro de Indianápolis. Luego, dirígete a Rascals Fun Zone y Arcade para jugar minigolf, carreras de karts y divertirte. También nos gustaría agradecer a nuestros exalumnos de la FFA por su apoyo.
