Reece and Team Earn Meritorious Distinction on Math Contest

Coel Reece’s team of four students earned Meritorious Distinction on the HiMCM (High School Mathematical Contest in Modeling) contest.  His team of four students had 10 days to prepare an approximately 20 page paper detailing their mathematical model of the impact of plugging in our electronics at “free” public charging places and what initiatives should be explored to reduce the cost of this increased energy usage in public places and its environmental ramifications.

By virtue of the quality of their paper and model, Coel’s team is one of approximately 60 teams for the United States invited to participate in the International Mathematical Modeling Challenge this spring in competition against top teams from around the globe.
