Mamma Mia - Auditions and Casting
With these times having a new normal, the Clarke Drama Department has announced their fall musical to be Mamma Mia. The casting process is usually done in person but this year it was through Zoom “meetings” on May 18 & May 21 with three people running the auditions, Donal May, Mary Pohlmann and Brad Lampe. Grades eligible to audition were 8th through 11th. An AMAZING number of 35 students will be placed in the cast for this show that will happen in November. Crew members and the musical pit (band) members will be placed in the fall when school resumes.
This year the Drama Department is doing something else new, other than the style of online auditions. This fall the Drama Department will have 4 performances so this places a high demand on some of the actors/singers. So, Clarke Drama decided to double cast some of the more vocally/physically challenging parts. The performances will be November 12 during the day open to students and then Friday November 13 @ 7 pm, Saturday November 14 @ 2 pm and Saturday November 14 @ 7 pm. The Friday and Saturday dates are open to the public with tickets going on sale early approximately November.
Students cast will have time this summer to “rehearse” and practice their songs individually and when restrictions are lifted, they will be able to work with the Clarke Directors. The Directors of Mamma Mia for Clarke High School are: Director - Donal May, Vocal Director - Mary Pohlmann and Musical (Pit) Director - Karina Kelso.
