Family Health & Physical Education
8th Grade Human Growth & Dev.
I graduated from the University of Dubuque with a degree in Physical Education and Health. I played baseball for four years (I was average at best. I may have set a record for the most strike outs in a career - no, I was not a pitcher), one year of football (I had to give up football because I really didn't like pain), and ran track for one year (I ran the 1600 and never finished better than second to last - really).
I began my teaching and coaching career at Saydel High School. I then took a job with the Villisca Community Schools district as an Athletic Director, teacher, and coach. I moved from Villisca to Martensdale-St Marys for one year as a long-term sub. I then moved on to Eagle Grove as an Athletic Director, teacher, and coach. I left Eagle Grove in 2008 to take a Physical Education and Health position at Clarke. The 2015-2016 school year marks the beginning of my eighth year teaching physical education and coaching at Clarke High School and Middle School.
I met my wife, Christy, while I was at Martensdale-St. Marys. In March 2016 we will celebrate our seven-year anniversary. Marriage has been good. Christy's loving, steady, spirit keeps me energized and grounded. I also have two step daughters. Both girls graduated from MStM. Cassidy is a junior at Northwest Missouri State University. She is in the education program studying to be an elementary teacher. Bethany is a freshman at Simpson College. Her future plans include computers or accounting or something else...she'll figure it out. I'm proud of the girls. They both have a good perspective on life, are enjoyable to be around, and bring much joy (and many challenges) into our lives. It's been a blessing to watch them grow and mature. Much to my surprise, all my years of working with teenagers and coaching girls did not prepare me for two step-daughters!
