The Clarke Family Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) was recognized at the 2012 Iowa FCCLA Leadership Conference as a new affiliated chapter. FCCLA, formerly FHA, teaches students financial literacy, health and nutrition, career preparation, and early childhood development skills through Family and Consumer Sciences education. FCCLA is a unique organization because its programs are planned and run by student members. It is the only student-led organization with the family as its central focus. FCCLA has more than 220,000 members and nearly 7,000 chapters in 50 state associations, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. The organization has involved more than 10 million youth since it was founded in 1945. Pictured are the 8 members who attended the conference from left to right: Tiffany Smith, Ashley Gibbs, Brenna Paul, Alexxa Blair, Sarah Pate, Cassidy Bierbrodt, and Traycee Earls.

Sophomore Cassidy Bierbrodt competed in the Iowa Students Taking Action with Recognition (STAR) events on Monday, March 26th. Cassidy participated in the category of Leadership in which she was required to mentor a peer for the past 4 months and examine and improve her leadership skills. Cassidy received Top Gold meaning she earned the highest score in her category. She was chosen represent Iowa at the 2012 National Leadership Conference in Orlando, Florida this July.
