As a child I had a fascination with language acquisition. I aspired to think, speak and dream in another language. I studied Spanish at Clarke, went to Costa Rica as a foreign exchange student, graduated from High School and enjoyed my continued interest in studying other languages while preparing to be an elementary school teacher at Cottey College in Nevada, MO and later at Brigham Young University in Provo, UT.
After spending 18 months as a missionary in Paraguay, I graduated with my teaching degree, and I began teaching English Language Learners in Arizona on the Mexican border. I completed my Master’s Degree in Multi-Cultural Bilingual Education in 1992 from Northern Arizona at which time I returned to Iowa and began teaching E.L.L. for Des Moines Public Schools before gladly returning to Clarke in 1999.
I am passionate about children, language acquisition and cultural diversity! My husband and I live on a small farm where we have been blessed to raise six wonderful children and where adorable grandchildren visit and play.
